Newcastle have started looking at other options to Hugo Ekitike as the move for the 20-year-old is at a standstill. The Magpies are still in talks but will not meet his representatives’ lofty demands.
Mark Douglas with i news has a report naming two potential alternatives to the young Frenchman. They are Chelsea’s Armando Broja and Nice’s Amine Gouiri.
Broja was mentioned yesterday by Douglas as a striker admired at St. James’ Park. The 20-year-old bagged 9 goals in all competitions on loan at Southampton last term. The Albanian is heavily linked with West Ham.
Amine is a highly-skilled attacker who was first linked by Douglas last month. An unnamed member of Eddie Howe’s staff personally watched the 22-year-old in early May.
Gouiri landed in Nice two summers ago for around £6m. The Frenchman had risen through the Lyon academy making 15 appearances before heading to the French Riviera. He has made 83 appearances with 28 goals and 17 assists over the past two seasons.
The dynamic forward is entering the final two years of his contract and is worth around £30m according to the report from May. That is a similar fee to what Newcastle have reached with Reims for Ekitike. It is also what is being touted for Broja.
Who Do You Think Will Be Newcastle's First Choice Goalkeeper Next Season?
As many have said, leave the offer on the table for Ekitike an move on. Tell him offers off if we sign someone else.
No point wasting more time

It’s going to be a long summer…
But in the end we will be a lot better for it
Sir Pugalot, the Dutch Bulldog
Targett and Pope in, just need 2 x centrebacks 1 x RAM 1 x LAM 2 x strikers. And as many quality youngsters as we can get.
Sir Pugalot, the Dutch Bulldog
sending drone to Phy, satellites too expensive for a low value target … lo just laughing.
Well if we’re after broja , we best get a move on because wham are supposed to be after him aswell !
Sir Pugalot, the Dutch Bulldog
TMQ so we just need 23 new players?
Sir Pugalot, the Dutch Bulldog
Magic! you will suffer for this. I am watching that link and I need to work.
Pug yeah pretty much. Those youngsters can go back on loan to where we bought them from. Bring them all back next summer and integrate them into the squad to replace the chaff and Bob’s your uncle.
We definitely need to bring in these exciting youngsters we are being linked to and like you say loan them back. Better to get in now and make them ours before anyone else does.
P(l)hy-ing under the rader for a first there Pug 🙂
On a serious note put a last chance offer on the table, deadlined another signing and put the rocket up the little chancer. As with anything in business if someone thinks they re gonna miss out they very quickly make their intentions clear
Raj, from a couple of threads back, not guilty, I’m a perenial lurker who loves reading about NUFC. I only post when an unemployed, housebound keyboard warrior Smoggy gets himself all irate and snidy and spoils my browsing as he has done since early doors today again !!!!
Mund exactly, maybe we should have offered that to Reims for Ekitike in January. Initial 18 month loan then permanently with us. Might have been done by now.
Who the foot is morocco0015…?
Anyone recall him/she ever posted anything NUFC related or in fact anything for contribution…?
Or does he only ever come out from under his rock to have a pop at me…? 😳 😆
That’s a good shout mate but I think the issue is his agent. It’s an agents job to big their players up and get them the best deal but in that the convince themselves they are better than they actually are. Ffs man Ekitike has just finished an under 20 tournament and hasn’t even proven himself in the big leagues and his agent is trying to go about like he is big licks…? Ruins the game but that will come to a stop soon
Mund you said Eki was coming. So if you are wrong you have ruined my summer. Just saying like.
Massively encouraged to read we aren’t being railroaded into paying over the odds for anybody, this is absolutely the correct stance and must be maintained at all times. Agents blagging for more, and teams blagging for more when they know we are genuinely interested, can go take a hike, Give in to one, and we’ll be paying over the odds for evermore. We can become known as weak-as-water softies, or shrewdies, and it all sound like we’re on the correct path.
Have you heard it from anyone reputable…? It was quoted from 90mins.
Still some to be played out on this
To be fair Eki’s talents are very unproven despite huge acclaim here and elsewhere. Let’s not lose sleep but we have been taken on quite a ride by him and/ or his agent.
It’s all speculation Mund but you said he was coming but nobody knows that either way. I’m not bothered, once we get other quality players
Has it been confirmed he isn’t…?

supermac says jinky jim was unbelievable
I would be surprised if it really is just the agent fees that are holding up the Ekitike deal.
If the player has agreed terms and hasn’t got other offers then he would be in his agent’s ear to get it done.
It makes me think the agent is waiting to see if anyone else wants to come in so he can leverage a better deal for himself and his client.
That being said… Broja and Gouiri are very exciting players one of whom is tried and tested in the PL and plays a lot like Wilson. So if Ekitike doesn’t fancy it, and I would love it if he did, then we’ll move on.
Jordan Cronin @jordancronin_ Still expecting Nick Pope to be announced as a Newcastle United player tonight
Sir Pugalot, the Dutch Bulldog

Who Do You Think Will Be Newcastle's First Choice Goalkeeper Next Season?
The Newcastle United Blog has been chosen as one of the best overall Newcastle blogs – click on the picture below for more information.
I have continued over the last two years to have quarterly checkups on my stage 4 prostate cancer. The treatment (hormone injections every 3 months plus Xtandi medication daily) has managed to slow the spread of the cancer.
I am just so pleased that we have now been taken over by rich and ambitious owners and Eddie Howe is now the head coach.
It is as it is.
My cancer was first diagnosed in April, 2011 and it became stage four in late December, 2016
That's when it spread through the bones to several areas of the body.
My treatment has also included radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
I remain in awe of the kind and effective treatment I have received from the Doctors and Nurses.
While stage four prostate cancer is terminal, I hope to be around for a while yet.
Let's also hope Newcastle can shock everybody this coming season with maybe even a top six finish!
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.
