COVENTRY: A Lockwood Street man was charged with assault July 6 after a landscaper reported the man spit on him following an argument in a Manchester Road parking lot, where the victim was trimming weeds around the man’s vehicle. A woman reported July 7 she went to a Manchester Road cemetery and discovered items had been removed from a gravesite and thrown into the trash. It was determined that the cemetery had a policy to collect all items from gravesites on Wednesdays, which had recently been changed to a different day. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report that a man was lying on a sidewalk on South Main Street July 8 at 2:30 a.m. Deputies found he was not intoxicated and the man declined medical assistance He provided his driver’s license as identification and was advised the license would be confiscated, per court orders.
GREEN: A Reston Drive woman reported June 28 someone used her identity to file a fraudulent application for unemployment benefits. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a fraudulent prescription called in to an Arlington Ridge Road pharmacy June 29. An Avanti Lane man reported June 30 he placed an ad to sell a vehicle online and received a check for $26,600 from a prospective buyer. He determined the check was fraudulent and was unable to contact the man. Deputies contacted law enforcement agents in Onslow County, N.C. and requested assistance in reaching the prospective buyer. Employees of a South Arlington Road beverage center and gas station on Massillon and East Turkeyfoot Lake roads were cited June 30 for selling alcoholic beverages to underage persons. Deputies investigated the burglary of an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road home June 30. A resident reported prescription drugs, furniture and household items were stolen. On July 1, deputies advised a Lansing Road man that he is banned from a Fortuna Drive hotel after employees reported he created a disturbance in the lobby and refused to leave. He was told to contact the corporate office regarding a dispute about a refund. An East Turkeyfoot Lake Road woman reported July 1 someone used her identity to open a bank account. Deputies investigated the theft of a purse and revolver from a vehicle outside a Finley Drive residence July 1. A woman reported tools were stolen from her yard at the same time. Deputies entered information about the firearm into a national database. A woman reported July 2 her wallet was stolen while she was at a garage sale on Everbright Drive. On July 6, deputies searched for a person who was reportedly attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot of an Arlington Ridge Road hotel. An East Caston Road business owner reported July 6 people from various states used fraudulent credit cards to place 23 orders. The owner canceled 22 of the orders and reversed shipping of the other one. Deputies investigated the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles in the 1400 block of Greensburg Road and the 3900 block of Mayfair Road June 6. An employee of a Lauby Road business reported July 6 her vehicle was keyed in the parking lot. On July 7, deputies reviewed text messages a Medina man sent to a Berna Drive woman threatening to damage her vehicle. They found the windshield had been smashed and a rock was inside the vehicle. The Medina man was charged with criminal damaging. Deputies investigated the burglary of an Interstate Parkway business July 7 after four tires and rims were stolen from a new vehicle on blocks.
LAKEMORE: A Josephine Avenue man reported someone stole his lawn mower from his porch between June 30 and July 3. An Elizabeth Avenue man was arrested for public intoxication and turned over to the Akron Police Department on a warrant July 5 after officers were flagged down by a group juveniles who claimed the man was threatening to fight them. Police responded to a call July 4 from a Sun Drive resident, who reportedly shot a neighbor’s dog after the dog allegedly attacked the resident’s dog. Also July 4, police responded to a Third Street residence and found a window was damaged. All windows and doors were secured. Police responded to a South Street home July 4 after someone broke into the house and stole $1,500 worth of items. Several juveniles believed to be involved were found, questioned and reportedly confessed to the crime. Reports did not indicate if any charges were filed. A Springfield Lake Drive woman reported July 5 a man threatened her in a text message. An Oxford Circle woman reported July 5 a man against whom she has a restraining order pushed her while she was picking up belongings. A First Street woman reported a Front Street man yelled at her children and scratched her car July 5.
NEW FRANKLIN: A Norton man reported two catalytic converters were stolen from his truck while it was parked at his New Franklin business between June 8 and July 8. An extra patrol was arranged and police advised the man to purchase security cameras for his buildings. Police responded to a Manchester Road home July 3 for an incident involving a woman and her son. The son reportedly refused to obey commands by police when they arrived and attacked officers. He was arrested for assault and taken to the Summit County Jail. Police investigated the theft of a catalytic converter on Grove Road July 6. A witness reported hearing a grinding noise near the vehicle and seeing a red SUV drive away from the property. A Tweed Drive man reported a handgun was taken from his house July 6 and he believes his son, of Salem, took it since he was the only person who knew where it was. An Akron man was cited for driving under suspension and having an expired registration following a traffic stop on Manchester Road July 10.
SPRINGFIELD: A Slagle Drive woman reported unauthorized use of her car June 22. She reportedly told police she authorized a person to use the car in April but the car had not been returned within the agreed upon time. The caller declined to press charges at the time of the report. The University of Akron Police Department later recovered the car and notified the owner. Also June 22, a Pine Lake Trail woman was arrested for disorderly conduct when police and fire units responded to a house fire in the 2300 block of Pine Lake Trail. The woman reportedly pushed a firefighter and continued to be disorderly after police warnings. An Oaks Drive woman reported a tenant of a Swartz Road property assaulted her June 22. The woman said the tenant slammed his fists on her car and closed the car door on her ankle because he was upset over reported services done by the woman at the property without his permission. A juvenile female was arrested June 23 after reportedly being disorderly at Springfield Lake. Officers reported receiving several complaints about the female and other juveniles, including alleged threats to fight. The juvenile’s mother called police June 24 to report her daughter had punched her in the face when the mother refused to allow her to go out with friends due to being grounded. The juvenile was taken to Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. Also June 23, a Devonshire Drive woman was arrested for drug possession following a traffic stop on Canton Road. The woman reportedly struck a curb while leaving a store parking lot and was pulled over. She was found to be driving without insurance and a bag containing a white crystal-like substance was found inside the car. Police pulled over a driver June 24 after seeing him drive over a curb and traveling at a high rate of speed. A bottle of whisky was found in the vehicle, and the man failed field sobriety and blood alcohol breath tests. He was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control and taken home. Also June 24, police were called to a South Arlington Road hotel for a man who was not breathing. Police administered one dose of Narcan and he regained consciousness. The man reportedly admitted to using fentanyl and declined to be taken to the hospital. An Akron man was charged with criminal trespassing June 24 after he was reportedly seen on a security camera trespassing on his estranged wife’s property. The man had been told by police June 4 not to return. He reportedly admitted to returning to retrieve property. A man reported being pick-pocketed June 24. The man said someone brushed up against his right pant pocket while he was in a food line and later discovered his wallet missing. That person was described as a man in his early 20s. An Akron man was arrested for marijuana possession following a traffic stop June 24 for having a broken taillight. Police reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana and a book bag with marijuana was found in the vehicle. Police called to a Kubler Trail home June 25 found a minor at the scene that had reportedly been locked out of the house by his mother following an altercation. Police advised the mother she could not lock the boy out since he is a minor, and agreed to let the boy stay at the home of a relative temporarily. A woman reported $60 was stolen while she was shopping at a South Arlington Road store June 25. The woman said she had forgotten to pick up the change from a register. Store security surveillance showed a person take the money and leave in a black Chevrolet. Police issued a warrant June 27 for a woman believed to be involved in a June 19 theft of a purse, wallet and credit cards from a car after identify her using one of the stolen cards on security surveillance at a Canton Road gas station July 20. Police questioned her about the theft after being stopped for a separate incident and she denied knowledge of the theft.
