DJI's Mini series drones offer industry-leading performance with compact form factors. Find out which of the three models is right for you.

DJI has made four drones in its Mini series and it sells three of those, the new Mini 3 Pro, the Mini 2, and the Mini SE, so which one is the best buy? Anyone interested in a lightweight, yet powerful drone for photography and video will want to know what makes these three models different and which one is best for them. When it comes to drones, the newest model doesn't always offer the greatest value, so a comparison of the top features of each can be helpful for buyers.

The small and light drone category is likely to attract first-time drone users since it's easy to get started without the need to register first. The lower cost and smaller size make these drones more portable and fun to grab and go. While it's true that the DJI Mini drones can't compete with the range and quality of the top-of-the-line Mavic 3, their compact size makes them more likely to be carried along for impromptu outings. Owners of more expensive drones might also use a DJI Mini for this reason.

The newest and most advanced lightweight drone from DJI is the Mini 3 Pro, offering longer flying time, better quality photos and videos, and more advanced sensors. That comes at a cost, however, making the Mini 2 and Mini SE better choices if the budget is too tight for the Mini 3 Pro. The DJI Mini SE was released after the Mini 2, incorporating some newer technology into the chassis of the original DJI Mini. That places the DJI Mini 2 as the mid-range choice. All three drones are in the convenient weight class of under 249 grams, which doesn't require registration before use. The DJI Mini 3 Pro starts at $759 ($669 without a controller), while the Mini 2 is $449, and the Mini SE is just $299.

When shopping for any new product, users must make their decision based on affordability versus needs and desires – the sweet spot. If the more expensive models are simply out of reach, the DJI Mini SE is a great drone for the price. However, the Mini 2 easily outclasses it in video quality, with 4K resolution compared to 2.7K for the budget model, as well as faster flights and a greater 10 kilometer transmission range (versus 4 kilometers for the Mini SE). For buyers who can afford to spend another $150, getting the DJI Mini 2 instead of the Mini SE makes more sense.

Clearly, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is the best choice if money is no object. The camera is far superior with an f/1.7 aperture and large 2.4-micrometer pixels. It also offers faster speed, greater range, more advanced tracking, and a longer flight time of up to 47 minutes versus the approximate 30 minutes of the lowest-priced models. It's absolutely worth the price, even at $310 more than the Mini 2. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is the best value for a small and light drone and borrows many features from DJI's larger and more expensive models.
